FAQ

Can I use my Trangia stove indoors? Can you wash Trangia parts in the dishwasher? I’m looking for a user manual, where are they?

Burners & Fuel

Can I use both spirit burner and gas burner in my Trangia stove?

Sure! If you have bought a stove with, for example, a spirit burner, you can buy an extra gas burner and switch between. See our burners >

How can I customize my old Trangia stove for the Gas burner?

Cut a larger hole among the small holes on the side of the lower windshield that is four holes wide and four holes high.

It gasps/leaks gas when I connect the gas burner to the gas container, why?

It's normal. There may be differences in how quickly the gas container valve opens when connecting between different gas containers/ different valves. To minimize leakage, keep the gas container in the upright position when connecting, and quickly screw the last turns.

My Gas Burner do not work as it should, what can I do?

The Gas burner needs regular cleaning. Read more in the Instructions how to clean it and more useful information on how to take care of the burner.

Which gas container fits Trangia’s Gas Burner & Multifuel Burner?

All propane/butane gas container with threaded valve complying with standard EN417, which is an international standard. Primus, MSR, Optimus, Jet boil are examples of gas container manufacturers.

Can Trangia’s Spirit burner, Gas burner or fuel bottles be transported on an airplane?

Unfortunately, we can not answer that. Always consult with your airline to find out what applies.

How do I clean the Spirit burner?

Normally, the burner is maintenance-free. If you have gotten food or dirt over the burner you can rinse/wipe it with water. Steel wool with soap can be used to polish the exterior. Allow to dry thoroughly before use.

Can I save fuel in the Spirit burner for another time?

Fuel can be stored in the burner for the next day’s cooking. Otherwise, it is better to pour it back in the bottle, or burn it out. Don't store fuel in the burner and pack it down. It can leak.

I see something white inside the small holes on my Spirit burner, what is it?

It is a wick of 100% cotton that is needed for the burner to function properly.

Using My Trangia

Can I use my Trangia stove indoors?

Yes, you can. A camping stove is made for outdoor use. If you plan to use one indoors, keep these things in mind: Make sure you have good ventilation, a fireproof surface, nothing above it, and always under supervision.

Also consider following local regulations, laws and injunctions that may apply.

My pot/pan has melted, how could this happen?

If you “dry cook”, as in place the pot/pans over the flame without any food, liquid or food fat, it will quickly become too hot and the pot/pans can melt.

My windshield has melted, how could this happen?

The air holes in the lower windshield should be facing the wind. If placed wrong or the wind direction suddenly reverses, you can get a back suction which  can causes it to melt in the air holes. Spilled fuel on the ground and on the windshield can also cause damage.

Can the various Trangia pots and pans be used over an open fire or other heat source?

Yes, all pots/pans can be used over open fire, Spirit or Gas stoves. Keep in mind that some products have plastic parts that can melt in direct contact with fire. Again, use caution to avoid overheating.

Can Trangia’s Multi-disc be used as a lid when cooking on the Trangia stove?

No, it can soften and lose shape. But it is good to use the Multi-disc as a lid to conserve heat afterwards.

Can you clean the Trangia stove and other parts in the dishwasher?

No. Dishwasher detergent is too strong and causes unsightly stains and a rough surface on aluminum. If it has happened anyway, it is still safe to use the parts.

How do I clean my Trangia stove?

Hand washing is recommended. For extra washing power, use Soap Wool or Scotch brite sponge, but not on your non-stick pots that have a more sensitive surface.

My pot or kettle has got discoloration that does not go away. I have only boiled water, what is it?

Water contains salts & various metals that react with aluminum and can cause discoloration to brown, yellow or even black shades. It´s difficult to remove but it´s harmless to continue using the pots.

Where do you produce your products?

Our Materials

What is Trangia’s non-stick coating made of?

The main component in the non-stick layer is PTFE, a non-conductive, water, heat, and chemical-repellent material. Our non-stick coating is free from harmful PFAS substances such as PFOA and complies with the requirements of the EU’s chemical directive REACH. The material is free from the health-hazardous substance PFOA, which is the most well-known of all PFAS chemicals.

Do Trangia’s products contain nickel?

Nickel is not actively added to our aluminum alloy, and therefore, the nickel content is not measured. Approximately 99.9% of our aluminum consists of substances that are measured and analyzed. Any nickel present as impurity in the material constitutes a very small proportion. Nickel is also not added during hard anodization. Duossal is made of aluminum and stainless steel. The stainless steel contains nickel, but it is considered to be so tightly bound that it does not pose any risk of allergy upon skin contact, similar to a regular stainless steel sink or pot commonly found at home.

Where does your material come from?

The raw material in our products, such as aluminum and nonstick discs, comes from European suppliers such as Hungary and Italy. Over 97% of our purchases are local. Only our fabric cases are manufactured in China.
